With the first two rounds in the books and the Sweet 16 approaching on Thursday, I thought it was a good time for a KHH bracket update. For the most part, the KHH bracket has been doing very well, with the exception of one region, the east. I will get into that later, but right now I am currently in the 92nd percentile of all yahoo brackets. In total, I have gotten 33 out of the 48 picks correct so far. Pretty good. Below I will show my picks and give comments on the best and worst ones.

This was definitely my best out of the four brackets, as I have all 4 of the Sweet 16 teams picked correctly. The 1, 3, and 4 teams all advanced to the Sweet 16 as usual, but I had an excellent pick in Xavier. I obviously didn’t think that Lehigh would beat Duke, but I did think that Xavier would. Even though they had an easier game with Lehigh than they would have had with Duke, they are in the Sweet 16 where they deserve to be. I am definitely looking forward to that Indiana-Kentucky rematch game in the next round. It should be a great one. I expect Baylor to beat Xavier pretty easily, as Xavier had a very close game today with a 15 seed (the score shows a 12 point game, but the game was at one point tied at 52).

Another pretty good bracket as I have 3/4 of the Sweet 16 teams correctly picked. The bottom half of this bracket is especially good, with Norfolk State over Missouri in the first round being my only miss. The Florida pick was excellent for me and I got lucky that they didn’t have to face Missouri in the next round. I have them beating Marquette in the next round and I’m going to stick with that. I like that matchup for the Gators. In the top half of this bracket, I missed with Long Beach State, but I think Michigan State should be able to handle Louisville in the next round. However, Louisville won the Big East tournament and is very hot right now. I definitely would not be shocked to see them upset the Spartans in the Sweet 16.

Here is the region that really screwed my bracket up. If not for this region, I would have a top 1% bracket on yahoo. Things were looking good after the first round here, but when Florida State and Vanderbilt, my two Elite Eight teams from this bracket, lost in the second round, my bracket took a big hit. Both teams lost close games, but close does not matter in game picking. I was especially disappointed in SEC champ Vanderbilt. I really had a good feeling about them this year, but it wasn’t meant to be. In the next round, there could be some upsets here. Cincinnati has been playing extremely well and very well might beat Ohio State. I’m still picking the Buckeyes though. Syracuse has been a little shaky in their first two games and I really don’t like them this year. They could also be upset in the next round too.

Even though I only went 2/4 for Sweet 16 teams in this region, my two Elite Eight teams are still alive, which is good news. I was surprised that N.C. State beat Georgetown today. I don’t think either team is very good, and I think Kansas will blow out N.C. State in the next round. In the top half of this bracket, Ohio shocked South Florida today to advance to the Sweet 16. This surprised me. I thought USF was better than that. Ohio is obviously a very good team after beating Michigan and South Florida, but I don’t think they stand much of a chance against UNC next round. That will be a blowout. I will be surprised if we don’t see UNC and KU in the midwest region Elite Eight.
